The Chen’s Residence: A custom contemporary farmhouse in Pittsboro, north carolina
Leah and Jack Chen decided to build their forever home in the serene Stonecrest neighborhood in northern Pittsboro after years spent in bustling urban landscapes. Their desire for a more natural setting led them to this tranquil location, especially important after spending more time at home during the pandemic.
Their previous home in Cary was beautiful but lacked the space and peace they craved. By 2020, the Chens were ready to move away from the constant hum of suburban life. They found a sprawling 5-acre lot and collaborated with Paces and Roehm Architecture and BOLD Construction to design and build their dream home. The couple had a clear vision and worked closely with architect Abbie Lee Roehm to execute it, ensuring every detail was perfect.
Jack’s home office setup features a standing desk with views of the woods, and Leah and Jack spend most of their time watching birds and other wildlife from their spacious screened porch. The oversized kitchen island is perfect for both everyday food prep and entertaining, while the grand staircase serves as the focal point between the foyer and living area.
The home’s design intentionally mirrors elements from a historic 1890s farmhouse on the property, blending contemporary luxury with the charm of a bygone era. Large windows bathe every corner in a soft glow, providing uninterrupted views of the surrounding pine forest. Natural stonework on the fireplace and crisp white built-in cabinetry are central to the clean farmhouse look found throughout the home.
Leah and Jack’s sanctuary offers them a peaceful retreat where they can enjoy the sounds of nature. They’ve even set up a vegetable garden and are working to revitalize the historic farmhouse into a guest space for extended family stays.
