Building a custom home is an exciting and deeply personal journey. At BOLD Construction, we understand that this process involves multiple stages, each presenting its own unique challenges and opportunities.  In this video Director of Sales and Client Relations, Christine Weise, breaks down the three key stages of building your dream home: selecting the lot, framing the structure, and bringing the vision to life as the project nears completion.

Stage 1: Picking the Right Lot

The first and perhaps most crucial step in building your custom home is selecting the right lot. While BOLD Construction doesn’t directly specialize in finding lots, we work closely with experienced real estate agents to ensure that the lot you choose aligns with your vision for the home. Our involvement begins the moment you’ve selected your lot, where we help you assess how the house will be sited, what kind of views you want, and the design of your outdoor space.

Whether you’re considering adding a pool or designing specific landscaping features, the way your home sits on the lot is vital. Questions such as “Where will the driveway go?” or “What should the front of the house look like as someone approaches?” all influence the design process. We involve our architects, civil engineers, and site planners to ensure every detail aligns with your long-term goals, all while staying within your budget.

Stage 2: Framing – The Emotional Rollercoaster

Framing is the stage where your vision starts to become a reality. It’s an exhilarating moment to walk up to the site and see your home take shape—walls going up, rooms being defined, and the layout becoming tangible. Clients often feel a surge of excitement at this stage, thinking, “My house is going to be done sooner than expected!”

However, it’s important to remember that after framing comes the detailed work behind the walls, such as electrical wiring and plumbing, which can feel slower by comparison. This is where communication becomes critical. We keep you updated with progress pictures and detailed explanations so that you understand what’s happening at every step, even when the visible progress seems slower. It’s all part of the process, and everything behind the walls is just as important as what’s in front.

Stage 3: Nearing Completion

As the home moves toward completion, the excitement builds again. Hardwood floors are installed, countertops are fitted, and your home starts to truly reflect your vision. However, it’s also at this stage that patience is crucial. While the big elements fall into place, smaller finishing details can still take time.

Clients often ask, “How long is it going to take?” The answer depends on several factors, including the size of the home, the complexity of the design, and any permitting or site work involved. Typically, the construction phase takes anywhere from 11 to 14 months, but when you factor in the design, permits, and lot preparation, the entire process can stretch from 18 to 24 months. But rest assured, once everything is done, your home will be exactly as you envisioned it, and the journey will have been worth it.

Final Thoughts: Communication is Key

Throughout the entire process, from lot selection to framing to final finishes, BOLD Construction prioritizes clear, constant communication. Building a custom home is a collaborative journey that requires patience, attention to detail, and, above all, teamwork. By staying in close contact and updating you every step of the way, we ensure that you remain as excited about your home on the day it’s finished as you were on day one.
