The BOLD Foundation recently partnered with the Chatham Education Foundation to provide over 16,000 books to children in Chatham schools as part of the Books on Break program.
Statistics show that two out of three children living in poverty do not have books in their homes, and more than 80% of children from economically disadvantaged communities can lose 1-3 months of reading skills over the summer. This can add up to 3 years of learning loss by the 5th grade, leaving them lagging behind their more affluent peers. Together, we met our goal to put 5 books in the homes of over 3,000 families in Chatham County.
From book sorts to book fairs, the BOLD Foundation along with Chatham Education Foundation were able to bring books to 6 different Chatham Elementary Schools. Check out this video from the Executive Director of the Chatham Education Foundation, Jaime Detzi, talking about the program’s success.
