The Books on Break program is provided to our most economically disadvantaged schools throughout Chatham County. The schools are chosen by administration. We work closely with school staff to set up a free book fair to the selected schools. The students then shop the fair and self-select books that they get to keep to begin a home library or build on their current one. By providing these books, the goal is to help students fall in love with reading, which is the foundation for all education. During the actual event, they verbally agree to read at least 20 minutes per day over summer. This will help to decrease the summer slide that happens every year when students are on break.
