In January of 2019, a mystery purchaser acquired more than 200 undeveloped acres in Research Triangle Park (RTP) for nearly $50 million, according to Wake County property records. Apple’s announcement Monday confirms the site will be home to a new campus and engineering hub in Research Triangle Park.

The move is expected to bring at least 3,000 jobs to Wake County as part of a plan to invest more than $1 billion in North Carolina.

The large plot of land — located off Louis Stephens and Little drives near the campus of Cisco Systems on the Wake County side of RTP — had been controlled by the Fidelity Charitable Gift Fund and the RTF, the News & Observer reports.
