The Westphals love their BOLD Forever home
Lake Chalet: The Westphals’ Vision for a Serene Retreat in Governors Club
When Governors Club popped up in an online search of golf communities in the triangle, it immediately became the inspiration for the Westphal’s move to Chatham County. “Once we visited, we knew this would be where we wanted to build our forever home,” says Lauri Westphal, a retired elementary school teacher.
This move marks a return for Lauri and Brian, a technology leader and consultant. The couple moved to the Carolinas in 1988 and spent the next seventeen years here, welcoming their two sons, Ryan and Nick. The family later moved to Arizona and Wisconsin before returning to Chapel Hill in 2017.
Once back, the couple took on the challenge of building what is considered one of the most beautiful homes in Governors Club. They tasked BOLD Construction to undertake the project.
The stunning Modern Craftsman home that emerged is located on one of the serene lakes of Governors Club. With its warm and luxurious living space, the home was thoughtfully designed to capture picturesque lake views from every angle and has been dubbed “Lake Chalet.”
Nestled on a gently sloped lot surrounded by native trees, the house features three levels with floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors on each. The five ensuite bedrooms, open floor plan, and entertainment areas make the home perfect for relaxing or spending time with family and friends.
The Westphals spent much time and effort designing every detail to leverage the lovely lake property. “We knew we would need a building partner that would work closely with us throughout the project to deliver our vision, and we felt the BOLD team was genuinely committed to making our home special. Starting with setting the house ideally on the lot, suggesting appropriate products and materials to create warmth, to delivering finishing touches to provide elegance. BOLD was there for us throughout the process.”
One of the standout features of the home is the seamless connection between the indoors and outdoors. The clients placed great emphasis on creating outdoor living spaces that were just as inviting and luxurious as the indoor spaces. The massive screened outdoor living room features a custom stone fireplace and dining area to enjoy Carolina evenings. A vaulted open-air porch off of the great room also provides a comfortable space to grill and take in the natural beauty of the area.
Lake Chalet’s exterior is clad in real cedar shake with wood corbel accents and wood column arches, all custom-made and carved. The Tennessee Fieldstone used for the home was hand-selected by the owners and features hues of grays and blues with hints of rust. The overall effect is an inviting space that blends seamlessly into the natural surroundings.
Inside, natural materials and color accents are used throughout to create a cozy and inviting atmosphere with elegance. The tile, cabinetry, and natural quartzite countertops all feature color accents adding to the overall warm and casual feel of the space.
Lake Chalet is the epitome of laid-back luxury and provides the perfect retreat for those looking to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life and immerse themselves in the beauty of nature.
